The Dean is responsible for overseeing the daily management of all aspects of college life, supporting both the students and residential staff in making sure the college is safe, enjoyable and all-inclusive.

Joel Wilson

Dean, Philip Baxter

I’m from a little coastal town up north called Shoal Bay. Like most people from the coast I like to surf, hike and ski whenever I get some free time.

I studied science/law at UNSW and lived in Philip Baxter College during my first 2 years at university. I decided to live on campus, and at one of the Kensington Colleges, because I wanted the complete university experience.

College quickly became my home and the residents my family and in so many ways those first few years of living on campus helped define me. The support and guidance I received allowed me to excel academically and to discover what I wanted to do in life. This included advocating for student rights as the UNSW Student Representative Council President and now writing policy and piloting special projects as a member of the NSW Public Service.

As the current Dean of Philip Baxter, I continue to enjoy every aspect of college life and the community it creates.

Resident Fellows

Resident fellows (RFs) are staff members of UNSW and typically in their final years of study or already holding a degree. RFs live with the students on their floors and provide daily academic and pastoral support. RFs aren’t teachers, but they’re a little like a supportive older sibling with loads of experience to pass on and a willingness to help guide the residents.
